* First, try a different USB cable. Sometimes they just go bad!
* Next, plug the USB cable into a different USB slot on your computer. Some slots are better than others.
* Turn off your scanner, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on. Give it a minute to reconnect.
* Restart your computer. This can often clear up any software glitches.
* If it's still playing up, try uninstalling and reinstalling the scanner software from the disc that came with it, or download it from the manufacturer's website (Canon, HP, etc.).
